Shovel Knight's Writing

I'd just like to say that one of my favorite things about Shovel Knight is the writing. I find the humor charming because it's fresh and clean, using clever puns, situational jokes and silly character interactions, and (for the most part) doesn't rely on fourth wall-breaking gags, let alone awkwardly placed memes or references to the games it tries (and succeeds) to emulate.

The story and how characters interact with each other may be predictable for the established setting and doesn't offer any major twists, but I still get really into it and attached because of how sincere it is and how it manages to keep the characters consistent to their traits, and uses those personalities for entertainment and drama effectively.

The titular protagonist Shovel Knight may be as standard noble heroic knight as it gets (on par with Jonathan Joestar), but I still love him just because of how well he sticks to his positive attributes such as justice, kindness, politeness and determination, while still having some hilarious moments with some of the characters he talks to and other small things such as falling face first into the ground after being launched from a catapult.

Plague Knight on the other hand was great in that his own adventure was able to highlight time and time again how wonderfully maniacal, condescending and conceited he was, while still able to show his more vulnerable and caring side. Seeing the way he interacts with the other members of the Order of No Quarter was also interesting because of how it highlighted how serious the rest of them were about the alliance, and (at least so far) have shown that they take their allegiance seriously and making Plague Knight and his motivations stick out further.

Having an earnest style of writing like this is actually something I want to accomplish in my game ideas, whether it be for the humor, the story or the character interactions.

Can't wait till we get the Specter Knight and King Knight DLC.

Btw, would you say that the writing is better than Shantae or on par with it? I don't know about you, but the Shantae series does have some entertaining writing.
